Maitri Affirmation Center - Maitri’s Affirmation Center (MAC) in San Francisco provides vital post-operative support for transgender individuals recovering from gender-affirming surgeries, including phalloplasty. Recognizing the urgent need for safe, affirming, and comprehensive aftercare, MAC offers a home-like environment with 24-hour nursing support, mental health services, social work case management, and nutritious meals. Patients recovering from phalloplasty often require extended care, mobility assistance, and emotional support—MAC is uniquely equipped to meet these needs, especially for low-income trans individuals who may otherwise lack access to appropriate recovery options. The current pilot program includes a private room with a bathroom, access to patios, TV, phone, and regular meals and snacks. As part of its expansion, MAC will add two more private recovery suites with showers and bathrooms, while also enhancing its clinical and psychosocial services in partnership with community healthcare leaders. Maitri is committed to ensuring that no one has to transition alone—providing a compassionate, competent, and community-based model of care for those healing after gender-affirming surgery.
