A Guide to Lower Surgery for Trans MenGuide to Lower Surgery for Trans Men

The desire to have a penis, and the decision to undergo complicated surgeries, are factors that are distinctly personal. GIRES (UK) has prepared a booklet which advises on the different options and the issues connected with them.

This 2009 publication provides information about the various options for 'lower' surgery for trans men. The aim of such surgery is to improve the lives of trans men, both psychologically and physically, by achieving a closer match between their genital appearance, their sexual function, and their self identification as men. It is a guide to what can, and what cannot, be achieved through surgery.

Authors: Gender Identity Research and Education Society (GIRES), Richard Curtis BSc, MB, BS, Dip BA, Andrew Levy PhD, FRCP, Joyce Martin ChB, D Obst RCOG, Kevan Wylie MB, MMedSc, MD, FRCP, FRCPsych, DSM, Terry Reed MCSP, SRP, GradDipPhys
